Less plastic bags please

Was standing in line at NTUC yesterday and I cringed at the sight of the way the cashiers wasted plastic bags by packing so little in each bag. I mean does one need to pack newspapers in a separate bag on its own? Shoppers were leaving with 5 and more bags, each bag probably carrying up to only 3 items.

I have to admit, I do not religiously carry my own bag to supermarkets. Yes, I take plastic bags from supermarkets but I always make sure I take as little as I can. And I make sure they are be re-used. I use mine to line the inside of the trash bin and I only throw the bag away when it's content is full.

When it came to my turn at the cashier, she packed 2 items into 1 bag and proceeded to grab another bag.

Me: It's alright you can pack all of them in that bag
Cashier: Cannot. My boss will scold me.

I've heard this so many times. It's as if the cashier's appraisal is based on the number of bags she gives out.

Cashier: Cannot pack so many things in 1 bag.
Me: No it's alright. They are all very light.

She proceeded to pack everything into the same bag. Then she put that bag into another bag.

Me: What? I don't need that bag.
Cashier: It's ok. It's free.

I was speechless. I returned her the extra bag and left.

I'm sure most shoppers are aware of the consequence of wasting plastic bags but most just don't wish to get into an exchange with cashiers over the bags. It's hard to ask for less bags at NTUC but I'm still going to keep doing it because it's the right thing to do. I hope you do the same.

Desmond and Yvonne's Wedding

I am still relishing in the memory of the great time I had at Desmond and Yvonne's wedding as I am writing this.

Yvonne is the cousin of a very close friend so it makes them a very special couple to me. I am glad that working together with them on their wedding photos has brought us closer.

As I go through their photos, I am very much touched by their happy faces. They may never say it but their photos show how happy they were on the day when they finally tied the knot officially. I am glad that I got to document and be part of one of the happiest days of their lives together.

I am so happy for them and I wish that they will stay so happy for ever and ever.

Yvonne getting her makeup done by Kelly Lau who's also an old friend. Her wedding was like a reunion of sorts. Got to catch up with Catherine, Yvonne's sister, whose wedding I also shot very early on in my career as a wedding photographer.

The bride looking very radiant just before the arrival of the groom.

A very sporting bunch of brothers.

This photo is a good representation of how cute they are together.

They look really happy together. They had their ROM 8 years ago so there's a certain familiarity and confidence in their relationship that is evident in their photos.

See more photos from the wedding on my facebook album part1 and part2.

Fav photos

I will start by posting some of my favourite images captured in the course of my job as a wedding photographer. Actually these are just the photos that I have on my laptop now. More photos on my external hard disk back at my studio. Will post more when I can get back to the studio on Mon.

1st entry

So here it is, my first entry on my first blog. I finally allowed myself to be talked into setting up my own blog. So many friends have been urging me to keep a blog for so long. The final push came from Vanessa. She convinced me that it will be a good way to keep track of my photography works and to share my photos.

Now that I've set my mind on blogging, I'm actually quite excited about it. I'm already planning in my head the photos that I will share here, how often I will post and who to invite to my blog. Yes, I can't wait to get started.
